Mike Wood At The National Theatre
3 June, 2010
I'm really excited to be performing as part of the National Theatre's Watch This Space this summer. Londoners will be able to catch my Catapulted Cabbage Catch twice on the (hopefully) sunny Southbank, June 26 at 13:00 and 16:30. If you're familiar at all with the National Theatre, you'll have a very good picture in your head of the awesome giant astroturf living room setup. That's where my show is going to be! I can't wait.
In other news, despite not making it beyond the semi-final round of Laughing Horse New Act Of The Year competition, I've managed to book tonnes of stand-up in London for the summer. June is packed, finalized July dates are coming. Check the calendar for details.
And and and! I'm finally going to be back at the Waterloo Arts Festival June 12 & 13. I'm hosting the Gala on June 10, and I'll be having a great time all weekend with a fantastic lineup of performers. Check it out.
Mike Wood Is In The Semi-Final!
10 April, 2010
Of +1000 entrants at the begining of the Laughing Horse New Act Of The Year competition, I made it through to the top 60. My semi-final round is on April 24th at The Tournament Pub in Earl's Court. And guess what? Tickets are available now.
Geeks: Mike Wood Welcomes You!
12 March, 2010
It takes one to know one.
If you're wandering around here having come from GeekPop 2010, please take a few steps back; some comedy lovers are getting crushed up against the barriers at the front. There are plenty of bits to go around. Have a poke around the Gallery and check out the Funny Writing.
For those of you interested in Temporal Distortions (and really, who isn't?), the first few days of GeekPop have me in two places at once. I'm also performing live in Waterloo, Canada at the Waterloo Comedy Festival March 11-13. I'll get some of my standup online upon my return from Canada.
On March 26, back in the UK, I'll be telling comedy jokes in the Quarter Final round of Laughing Horse New Act Of The Year competition. It's upstairs at The Goat Tavern and as it happens tickets are available now.
Mike Wood Has Some Plans For 2010
16 January, 2010
New year. New decade. It began, as it always does, with my annual missive. It's a fun annual deadline to keep, and it has grown into a tradition in which I'm happy to indulge. My friend Naz, whom I met back in the day through Skule Nite sent me a really nice message after reading this year's note:
“I look forward to these messages each year. In short, reading them in the company of loved ones (who share a similar sense of humour) has become a New Year's tradition.”
Who knows? It might be that Mike Wood is the new Times Square Ball Falling Thing. It could happen. Anyway, so far it looks like 2010 could be a very busy year for the comedy bit of my life. First up, I'm involved in the Laughing Horse New Act Of The Year competition. My first heat is February 4, in Earl's Court. The first heats are judged by the audience, and subsequent heats are professionally judged. I'm looking forward to it.
And speaking of things to look forward to, the Waterloo Comedy Festival approacheth! March 11-13, I'll be sharing the stage with some awesome comedians. I can't wait.
Mike Wood Is Smothered In Technology
7 October, 2009
I've embedded a Twitter widget here. Nothing particularly innovative or groundbreaking. However, it's still cool. Trust me on this. It's not my plan to broadcast to the world the minutae of my daily dietary selections:
“zomg! pot sticker dumplings ftw! om nom nom.”
That's not me at all. Rather, this is a fun and challenging writing exercise. I've been carrying around little Moleskine notebooks in every pair of pants and every suit jacket for years now, the theory being that I'm funny once a day and I should make an effort to record and catalogue those moments for later. Plus, it gives me a reason to carry a Space Pen. Now the whole thing goes digital and a little higher pressure. Using science. And the Twitscape.
